Meet Our teacher leaders
It takes something special to become
a People to People teacher leader.

Every school year, top educators from around the United States apply to become People to People teacher leaders.

We choose a select number of these educators to lead our delegations based upon our close assessment of the following attributes:

  • Years of classroom teaching experience

  • Strong recommendations from their principals and/or superintendents

  • Firm commitment to the ideals of our programs

  • Energy and enthusiasm needed to bring fun and enjoyment to the journey

  • Unwavering dedication to student safety and well-being

Each year, a small number of new leaders are brought on board to work alongside their more experienced colleagues. Many of our teacher leaders have led delegations for more than five years, and some have chaperoned and guided our students for as many as 20.

No matter how long their People to People tenure, all of our teacher leaders share a passion for our Student Ambassador Programs that will help make your child's journey as a Student Ambassador truly a life-changing experience.
For a retired teacher, Mary Hansen is busier than ever.

Now a retired school teacher from Alabama, Mary remains busy as a People to People area director for four states. She recently led a group of Student Ambassador alumni to Antarctica, and helps her students with fund raising before and after their journeys.

"These programs can change a child's life," stated Hansen. "They gain confidence by seeing things with their own eyes rather than reading about it in a textbook. They truly come back as matured individuals, and my reward is that I get to watch it all happen."
